YouTube Ads

Geo-targeted YouTube (in-stream, in-feed, and Shorts) produced for the buyer journey across service and consumer categories.

What it is

YouTube alone is rarely a lead engine; alongside Google Search and Meta it compounds, lifting branded search volume in your market.

It earns a place once capture channels saturate (see allocating a paid media budget under $50K across Meta and Google), and format is a funnel decision: YouTube ad formats for each stage of the buyer journey.

Judge YouTube on lift, not on views.

Formats

Which format matches which moment.

Match format to attention: YouTube is several ad products, and the wrong one gets the channel written off.

Skippable in-stream pays on a view or engagement from people who chose to stay. In-feed reaches people browsing results. Shorts is vertical and sound-optional. Bumpers are six unskippable seconds for one idea.

Service businesses start with skippable in-stream, where an explanation can land, and add Shorts once creative works without sound.

Who sees it

Geo-fencing first, then what people are watching.

Fence the campaign to the area you dispatch to, with location set to presence rather than interest, because cheap, enormous video inventory wastes impressions fast.

Then target what people watch and search on YouTube and Google, with in-market and custom segments seeded from your customers. Exclude made-for-kids content, autoplay-heavy channels and app inventory.

Production

The first five seconds decide the rest.

Viewers decide whether to stay while your logo is still animating, so name the problem in the first line.

Most will only ever see those five seconds.

We brief production around the real category: the work, the crew, the before-and-after a homeowner recognizes, not generic corporate footage. Spanish-language creative is produced natively for US and Mexico markets where the customer base warrants it, not subtitled afterwards.

Measurement

Judge it on lift, not on views.

YouTube is rarely a last-click channel, and a last-click cost per lead will end it every time.

Measure branded search volume and direct traffic, assisted conversions in Google Ads, and Search cost per conversion over the run.

The read takes longer than a Search test, so set a branded query baseline, run period and decision rule before launch. Alongside Google Ads and Meta, it feeds channels that close; judged alone, it is asked to do a job it is not built for.

Sequencing

The second ad is not the same as the first.

A cold viewer and someone who watched thirty seconds of your work need different messages, and YouTube lets you build audiences from view behavior to serve the next one.

Use two or three creative steps: the problem for new viewers, proof for people who watched through or engaged, and a direct ask for site visitors who left.

Remarketing is where a bumper earns its place, since six seconds can repeat an established idea.

Budget

What this costs to run honestly.

Video is cheap per impression and expensive to judge.

Too little budget scatters impressions across a month and nothing moves far enough from baseline to read.

If a campaign runs six weeks in one metro with one geo and two creative variants, decide on the baseline recorded before it started, not the platform's view count. Where the budget cannot support that concentration, the money does more in Google Ads or Meta.

Production is the usually underestimated cost. Shoot on site alongside work already happening; do not commission a brand film before the channel is proven.

FAQ

Questions about YouTube ads.

  • Direct response works for some categories, but for most service businesses YouTube performs as a demand-creation layer feeding Search and Meta. Judge it on branded search volume, assisted conversions, and the cost per view of people who later convert somewhere else. Holding it to a last-click cost per lead standard usually leads to switching it off too early.
