VERT - 18

Paid media for HVAC companies.

HVAC had more confirmed advertisers than any trade we scanned. 60.0% of 230 HVAC sites still had no conversion tracking. What that means for paid media.

Thesis

HVAC is the most advertising-mature trade we measured. It had more confirmed advertisers than any other, and the second-best overall tracking rate. Six in ten sites still had nothing - and seasonality makes that gap expensive at exactly the wrong moment.

The scan
60.0%
of HVAC websites had no conversion tracking
138 of 230 sites loaded
26.5%
of confirmed advertisers were running ads with nothing measuring the result
18 of 68 confirmed advertisers

How well does HVAC measure compared with other trades?

We loaded 230 HVAC websites. 138 of them, 60.0%, had no conversion tracking of any kind - the second-lowest rate of the twelve trades in our conversion tracking report. HVAC also had more confirmed advertisers than any other trade we scanned: 68. Of those, 18, 26.5%, were advertising with nothing measuring the result.

So HVAC is ahead of the field, and the field is not a high bar. A trade where most operators buy ads, and six in ten sites still record nothing, has plenty of accounts making decisions on clicks.

Why does seasonality make a tracking gap more expensive?

HVAC demand is violently seasonal. A measurement gap that costs little in a mild April becomes expensive in a July heatwave, when every operator raises budgets at once and the auction is at its most competitive. Without conversion data, the account cannot tell which campaigns earned that spend. In Google Ads we plan peak budgets before the season rather than reacting inside it.

Automated campaigns need clean conversion data before they are worth running at scale - the setup is covered in structuring Performance Max for local home-service operators. Local Services Ads sit alongside Search for the emergency no-heat and no-cool calls.

Why is lifetime value the number that matters in HVAC?

A maintenance agreement is a customer who comes back twice a year and is first in line when the system needs replacing. Judged on cost per lead, that customer looks no better than a one-off repair. Judged on lifetime value, it is the most valuable lead the account produces.

That means sending agreement sign-ups and replacement sales back to the ad account as separate conversions with their own values. Meta Ads are useful for maintenance plan offers ahead of the season; they are not where emergencies are won.
